Homeward

Here there is some evidence that Vail and a group mined the Koyukuk, while we know Marsh went home by taking a stern wheeler to St. Michale and an ocean ship back to Seattle.

 

    Indians drying salmon on the Lower Yukon. The Hogatlakakat is probably a tributarry of the Koyukuk, about 320 miles from the Yukon. Must have a different name today.

Marsh describes his time in St. Michaels as being very comfortable, if you had money. Next stop, Dutch Harbor, would have been by ocean-going steamer.
